Person Centred Counselling

What is Person Centred Counselling?

Person-Centred Counselling, also known as Client-Centred Therapy, is a gentle, non-directive approach to therapy developed by psychologist Carl Rogers. This method is based on the belief that every person has an innate ability to grow, heal, and find their own solutions when given the right conditions.

Core Principles of Person-Centred Counselling:

  • Empathy: The therapist strives to deeply understand the client’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences from their perspective.
  • Unconditional Positive Regard: Clients are accepted without judgment, no matter what they share. This helps them feel safe, valued, and understood.
  • Genuineness (Congruence): The therapist is authentic and transparent, creating a trusting and open relationship.

How It Works:

In Person-Centred Counselling, the client leads the conversation, and the therapist listens with empathy and understanding, without directing or giving advice. This creates a safe space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences at their own pace, gaining self-awareness and clarity.
